Fourth Element is a well-known British company founded by Jim Standing and Paul Strike. During a dive trip to the Red Sea back in 1999, they decided to create a brand and products to make cold water diving more enjoyable. Check more on our Blog - Fourth Element – A Brief History.
Achieving a global reach and esteem amongst scuba divers for their exceptional undersuits and base layers, the company moved to offer more eco-friendly and warm water scuba diving equipment, including OceanPositive freediving, scuba diving wetsuits, and a range of swimming suits.
Nowadays, the Fourth Element is a favourite amongst scuba divers who proactively look to reduce their environmental impact. While some products in Fourth Element's range derive from more natural eco-friendly sources such as latex from the rubber tree, the company also is actively seeking to reduce plastic pollution. Many Fourth Element's products use recycled plastic from multiple sources such as fishing nets from the sea or waste plastic from the automotive industry.
The year 2022 looks very exciting as the company is planning a release of a new range of products, including new undersuits, wetsuits, fins, and the first Fourth Element's Mask called the Scout!
The new Fourth Element Scout Mask was designed and made with comfort and customisation in mind. Diving conditions worldwide are incredibly different - from tropical to temperate and cold waters. When environments are very different, the Fourth Element comes forward, introducing different lenses for different dive conditions. The Fourth Element Scout Mask is available in two primary frame colours - black and white and each is offered in four different lenses for the different types of underwater environments:

SHIELD lens great for tropical seas
It was inspired by the gold visors of NASA astronauts. The SHIELD lens provides UV protection and reduces glare, making it ideally suited to tropical and warmer water environments. Perfect for shallower diving and snorkelling in bright conditions. UVA and UVB radiation is reflected by the lens, reducing the eye's exposure to potentially harmful rays.
CLARITY lens ideal for night dives and photographers
The CLARITY lens is manufactured with the highest level of purity to deliver maximum visual acuity during a dive. The clear lens is ideal for night divers and photographers, maximising the amount of transmitted light without any tint from impurities in the glass. This ultra-clear lens is also perfect for teaching - allowing students and instructors to see each other's eyes.
CONTRAST lens perfect for green water and temperate seas
This contrast lens provides full UVA and UVB protection from harmful ultraviolet. The contrasting lens has a green appearance, filtering out some of the mid-range wavelengths of light in the visible spectrum. Particularly when diving in temperate (green) waters, images seen through the lens increase contrast, accentuating brighter and darker areas, increasing the perception of visual acuity.
ENHANCE lens enhancing colours in all conditions
This lens is designed to protect the eye and enhance the visual experience. It filters Ultraviolet and HEV (High Energy Visible) radiation. It is well known that UV has a damaging effect on the eye, but it has also been shown that HEV light can interfere with the lutein proteins in the eye and alter them, so filtering out this High Energy radiation can help to preserve optical health.
Dedicated Scout Mask Straps
Each Scouth mask comes with comfortable strap - you can pick one of the colours that suit you the best - Aqua, White, Black and Grey - all with lovely Fourth Element branding. Fourth Element scout Mask Straps are made out of recycled rubber and nylon with universal plastic buckle created out of recycled automotive plastic waste! The Fourth Element Scout Mask Straps are sold also separately so you can have multiple straps for your mask or you can upgrade your existing mask with a new strap. Dedicated Scout Mask Box
Low profile and protective, this case will protect the lens thanks to its cushioned half shell without creating bulk, meaning it can fit in the foot pocket of many fins for convenient transport. It is supplied as standard with every fourth element mask. They are designed to replace the bulky, disposable plastic boxes supplied with many masks.
