How to use a drysuit

Drysuits are designed to allow you to wear clothing underneath them whilst you are scuba diving. This allows you to operate in colder environments than a wetsuit, as the clothes you’re wearing underneath will stay dry and help insulate you from the cold. You’ll need to ensure that your clothing choices are suitable for the suit you’re using, though.

Do drysuits keep you dry?

Short answer: Yes. Drysuits are able to keep you completely dry. The suits are often made out of foam neoprene or other such substances that are waterproof, and the suits are sealed at the core areas like the ankles, wrists and neck to prevent any water from getting in.

How to store a drysuit

Proper drysuit storage is essential to keep your suit fully functioning and usable on scuba dives. At the minimum, they should be stored out of direct sunlight in cool, dry conditions and away from rooms that have combustion sources such as furnaces. These areas can generate ozone which can damage some materials that drysuits can be made of. 

What is the difference between a wetsuit and a dry suit?

Drysuits and wetsuits are very similar in many ways, but they have some differences that need to be considered when you’re making a purchase. Wetsuits work on the assumption that your principle heat source should be your body, whilst the design of drysuits allows for undersuits to be worn underneath, allowing for additional layers of warmth. The core difference, though, is that wetsuits won’t keep you dry, and a drysuit will.
